The Icelandic Defence Agency is an agency under the Ministry for Foreign Affairs which oversees projects relating to defence and security. Activities of the Icelandic Defence Agency are in accordance with the stipulations of the Defence Laws, enacted by the Althing, the Icelandic Parliament on 16 April 2008.
About the director
The minister for Foreign Affairs appointed Ellisif Tinna Vidisdottir as the first director of the Icelandic Defence Agency on 19 May 2008. Vidisdottir was appointed for five years, commencing on 1 June 2008, the official start date of the Agency.
